Erdix Tenney Wilson was born on October 15, 1831 in Hardwick, VT.  His parents, Samuel and Martha, resided in Hardwick.  The 1860 census lists Wilson as living with his parents in Plainfield, VT and his occupation as "ambrotype taker" (photographer).  He married Julia B. Wentworth in April 1868.  Living in Lancaster, NH, he learned the art of photography which he pursued for the rest of his life.  He also painted and was listed in the New England Business Directory in 1875 as a painter in Lancaster, NH.  In 1879 he moved to Barton, VT and purchased Joseph Webster's photographic business.  In 1883-84 he was listed in the Lamoille and Orleans County of Vermont's Business Directory as a photographer and landscape painter.  Wilson died in Barton, VT on December 27, 1901.

Paintings of both New Hampshire and Vermont by E. T. Wilson have been located.  One painting is listed in the Inventory of American Paintings at the Smithsonian Institution and is titled On Roaring Brook, Barton, Vermont.  One other, Mount Kearsarge, is on display in our exhibition.
