Virginia Granbery (1831-1921)Virginia Granbery studied at the Cooper Institute with A. F. Bellows and at the National Academy of Design. Granbery, like her sister Henrietta Augusta Granbery, was best know for her fruit paintings, most of which have been lost. In her time, more of her fruit paintings were reproduced by L. A. Prang Lithographers (Boston) than those of any other artist. Granbery also was a portrait, landscape, and animal painter. Granbery taught at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She lived in New York City through 1890, and may have left New York after leaving her teaching position. Granbery exhibited at the National Academy of Design (1859-1890), the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1860-1889), and the Brooklyn Art Assocation (1861-1886). References
