 Benjamin Tupper Newman was born in Bath, Maine. He
studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the National Academy of Design, Jullen's Art School, and the Beaux Arts in Paris.
He traveled to Europe five times where he painted in southern France and Italy. He painted scenes throughout the United
States - California, Lake Michigan, Colorado, the Canadian Rockies, Maine, and
New Hampshire. Newman exhibited at the Paris Salon and most of the major
cities of the United States.
He taught art at the Fryeburg Academy in Maine.
Besides being a painter, he was also a poet, archaeologist, Indian
arrow-maker, and boat builder.
