Aldro Thompson Hibbard (1886 - 1972)
Hibbard exhibited widely in New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago. In 1916 he exhibited in a one-man show at the Boston Art Club. In 1919 a group of winter scenes at the Guild of Boston Artists set the standard for his mature work. Hibbard painted outside even in the middle of winter, a practice he continued throughout his life. In the summers, he would travel to the seashore. He became known as the "Painter of New England Winters." Hibbard painted until 1965 when his eyesight began to fail. The Guild of Boaton Artists, where he had exhibited for forty-five years, mounted a retrospective exhibition that same year. Hibbard died in Rockport, Massachusetts in 1972 at the age of 86. |
